What a way to start the cold-water bait tactics!
Maggot season at the Monument complex has kicked off in style – producing the site’s record carp.
The mirror known as Richie was banked by Shed Winkworth at 52lb 2oz from Monument One, smashing his previous personal best by more than 20lb.
Every year, the RH Fisheries venues allow maggots to be used from November 1 until the end of February – and the fish normally respond positively.
Fishery manager Harry Hales told Carpfeed: “We saw 35 fish come out in the first 36 hours and this morning [Monday, November 2] is proving to be just as prolific with Monument Two producing plenty of fish and Monument One’s biggest resident gracing the bank at 52lb 2oz.
“This is Shed’s first-ever visit to the Monument and in only a few hours he has smashed his previous pb of 30lb
Lancashire park lake produces 30lb common
A Lancashire park lake gave Lauren Hogan a new personal best in the shape of this 30lb common.
The fish is the biggest carp in the North West venue and came moments after Lauren spotted signs of activity.
The 20-year-old, who was fishing with her partner, told Carpfeed: “We had already been here for 24 hours at this point and I still hadn’t had a beep until I saw the only fish we had seen so far bosh not far from me.
“Five minutes later my rod screamed off!
It’s a new venue record for the water at 30lb
“I hit into it and it broke the surface straight away. It erupted and my rod doubled over.
“This battle went on for 20 minutes – it was by far the best fight of my life and it broke my pb by 10lb.”
The full-time carp angler fished a bright-yellow pop-up on a 360 rig over a small bed of crushed boilies and hemp.

Mobile app unites anglers worldwide
A mobile app that already has 200,000 users is aiming to unite the fishing community around the world.
Fishsurfing boasts a photo and video gallery of fishing catches, the largest database of private fishing grounds in the UK and Europe, the ability to chat with local guides without the need to know a foreign language and easily translated fishing articles and blogs from around the world.
The app was launched at the end of May after four years of development and has so far recorded over 200,000 registered users.
"There are several hundred thousand people who fish in the United Kingdom and the number of people who do it as a hobby keeps growing,” said app founder Filip Domorád.
“Although fishing is increasing in popularity worldwide there is not yet a platform that connects this specific community.”
According to Filip, Fishsurfing is unique because it has the largest database of local guides – not companies, but real people.
In addition, the app can map up to 4,000 private fishing ground across Europe, Russian-speaking countries and tropical countries such as Thailand, and shows the largest database of fishing stores in Europe, North and South America and Australia.
"We have just added the largest database of accommodation for anglers to the application, and we plan to also gradually add European state fishing grounds", added Filip.
Currently, the application focuses primarily on the European market, as most registered fishermen come from France, Poland and the United Kingdom.
It is available for Android and iOS and is translated into 18 world languages. In the coming years, Filip plans to fully introduce the application on other continents
